This guide provides instructions for setting up the Automated Childcare Leave feature, which assigns childcare leave based on employees’ family details and tenure. Before activating this feature, it's important to consider how it will impact leave records and entitlement balances.
Things to Consider Before Enabling Automated Childcare Leave
If there are already childcare leave types in use, leave records from these leave types can't be moved to the new automated one because it is a separate leave type.
If you want to backdate leave records for employees who have already taken leave this year, you’ll need to manually apply these adjustments by following the instructions in this guide.
If you prefer to continue using your existing leave types for the current year’s records and reports, you may choose not to enable the automated childcare leave feature at this time. With these considerations in mind, follow the steps below to enable automated childcare leave.
1. Go to Leave > Leave Settings > Other Settings.
2. Under Childcare and Extended Childcare Leave, select Follow MOM Leave Regulations.
3. A pop-up will appear to confirm the one-time setting. Click Save to proceed.
4. Once saved, the system will automatically assign the childcare leave based on the employee's family details and employment start date.
Childcare Leave
The system assigns childcare leave based on the following criteria:
Scenario | Actions |
Employee is newly added (e.g., Employee A), with no family details in the system. | No childcare leave is assigned. |
Employee has entered their child details, with the youngest child under 7 years old and any nationality, but has not worked for 3 months. | Childcare leave with 0 days entitlement is assigned. |
Employee has entered their child details, with the youngest child under 7 years old and Singaporean nationality, and has worked for at least 3 months. | 6 days of childcare leave will be assigned. |
Employee has entered their child details, with the youngest child under 7 years old and a non-Singaporean nationality, and has worked for at least 3 months. | 2 days of childcare leave will be assigned. |
When the youngest child reaches 7 years old, the system will automatically assign Extended Childcare Leave.
Extended Childcare Leave
The system assigns extended childcare leave based on the following criteria:
Scenario | Actions |
Employee’s youngest child is aged 7-12 years with Singaporean nationality, and the employee has worked for at least 3 months. | 2 days of extended childcare leave will be assigned. |
Employee’s youngest child is aged 7-12 years with a non-Singaporean nationality, and the employee has worked for at least 3 months. | No extended childcare leave will be assigned. |
Employee’s youngest child is over 12 years old with Singaporean nationality, and the employee has worked for at least 3 months. | Both childcare leave and extended childcare leave will no longer appear in the employee’s leave options. |
Important Notes
- Both childcare leave and extended childcare leave cannot be updated or deleted once assigned. However, certain settings can be adjusted:
- Approval Template
- Certificate Required
- Minimum Notice Period (e.g., how many days in advance the leave request must be submitted)
- Terms & Conditions (e.g., employees need to agree to specific terms before submitting the request)
- Approval Template
- Ensure the employee's country of work is set to Singapore in their Employment Details; otherwise, the leave will not be assigned.
- Once automated childcare leave is enabled, it cannot be disabled.
Adding Family Details
1. To add family details, go to My Employees and select the relevant employee.
2. Under the Personal page, scroll down to the Family Details section and click Add New Family Member.
3. Enter the employee’s child details, such as Nationality and Date of birth, and click Save.
Once family details are added, the system will automatically determine the appropriate leave entitlement based on the child’s age and nationality.
